T HE philosophy of technology is in a state of growth. In the past two years alone, over a dozen philosophical studies of technology have .~. appeared. Occasional references are even made to a new wave m philosophy of technology. Indeed, of the three recent anthologies that will be discussed here, two pretend to present a sampling of 'the new philosophy of technology.' Introducing New Directions in the Philosophy of Technology (henceforth New Directions), Joseph Pitt writes: 'I propose that the papers in this volume represent the advance of the new wave [in philosophy of technology]
